Foot Mobilisation Therapy

Osteoarthritis (OA) is extremely common in the body and particularly the foot and ankle. In Australia OA affects 1 in 5 people and is a major cause of pain and disability. OA is the excessive wear and tear of the cartilage that lines our joint surfaces. A well balanced and aligned joint will have equal cartilage production to cartilage wear.

When the wear outweighs the cartilage production we develop OA. Sufficient synovial fluid production minimises the wear and tear of the cartilage. A cartilage that is well lubricated will be more comfortable with movement. The number one stimulant to produce synovial fluid is movement.  Controlled movement via your trained podiatrist in the form of foot mobilisation therapy can stimulate production of our “natural lubricant” synovial fluid and minimise pain associated with OA. By carefully and gradually mobilizing the effected joints your podiatrist may be able to improve those stiff/painful joints and get you back doing the activities you love!
